Russell’s early work in the feeding pools instilled an intense desire to spend much of his life detached from reality, in air-conditioned comfort where the large many teethed things would only be allowed out through cathartic sketching sessions. Many years were spent creating, dreaming and drawing.
To this end Russell pursued a career in the graphic arts with some success.
Over the years Russell’s creative mind has attracted all manner of interesting people with new ideas looking for aid in making their ideas reality. He has been instrumental in the success of business startups, book launches, product designs, magazines, newspapers, clothing ranges, cartoons and marketing campaigns. He has helped birth a youth centre along with its own state wide publication. He has even launched a few of his own companies.
In the year 2000, Russell discovered poetry and his life long love (Karen), both at the same time. This poetic bent has continued and is now responsible for the Bunyip Tree series of children’s books which were written and illustrated by Russell.
Russell is still looking for new adventures and wanting to get lost in stories and creating new worlds. There is also the issue of his incessant sketching.
The Bunyips live in the Bunyip Tree, they sleep all day and at night they play.
The Bunyip Tree is a rich and intricate world where the bunyips and their friends live, play and have adventures.
Bunyip Tree author visits are great learning experiences with an emphasis on student participation. Children are given the tools and the confidence to encourage their story telling and drawing.
